Experience

  • Sergio Hidalgo-Monroy Portillo is a senior executive with extensive experience in negotiation, execution capacity, and crisis management. He has a deep understanding of both the public and private sectors at the highest levels, as well as significant international experience representing the interests of IFM Investors, an Australian fund with assets over $80 billion worldwide and $2.7 billion in assets in Mexico.

  • Prior to representing the fund's interests, he managed one of the most serious corporate crises for a company listed on the Mexican Stock Exchange, OHL Mexico. He resolved both public and private investigations, reported the results to shareholders and participating banks, and maintained market value for shareholders, which represented 46% of the shareholding at that time. This work facilitated the sale of these assets to the Australian fund.

  • His 25-year career in the Federal Government allowed him to demonstrate his negotiation, management, and crisis management capabilities. As the Director of ISSSTE, he negotiated with the union for the management of the Social Security Institute and the implementation of pension reforms. As the Director of SAE, he consolidated the Liquidation of Luz y Fuerza del Centro and negotiated with the union the terms of the liquidation. And as the Chief Officer of Finance, he coordinated all federal agencies for the understanding and promotion of ISSSTE pension reforms throughout the country. He also served as the President of the Board of PENSIONISSSTE.

  • His financial experience includes infrastructure project financing and, as the head of Bancomext's office in New York, he reestablished relationships with institutional investors after the 1994 financial crisis, in coordination with the country's financial authorities. He was part of the team that carried out the country's debt restructuring in 1990 and the implementation of the financial package derived from these negotiations.

  • He has participated in 20 Boards of Directors or Governing Boards of public and private companies, always promoting the strengthening of Corporate Governance. He has been a strong advocate for corporate integrity practices.

  • Committed to social work, he led the efforts of the Anahuac University in assisting the victims of the 1985 earthquakes and has actively participated in social organizations seeking to generate change in the inequalities of our society.

  • Sergio holds a Master's degree in International Banking and Finance from Columbia University in New York and a law degree from the Anahuac University in Mexico City. He is also certified as an International Arbitrator to handle commercial and investment disputes by the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) in Paris, France.
